Waipiʻo Valley Flooding May 13, 2024

Following recent floods in Waipi'o Valley, critical waterways and infrastructure have been severely damaged, impacting our cultural practices and local agriculture. This project seeks to restore essential water channels and infrastructure,

enhancing sustainability and resilience.

We aim to procure two 4-wheel drive vehicles to facilitate transportation of necessary repair materials and labor across challenging terrains. Additionally, funds will support land clearing and repair equipment rentals. This initiative will not only preserve the valley's cultural heritage but also bolster its environmental and economic stability.

Restoring Waipiʻo Valley: A Tribute to Our Dedicated Volunteers

We are excited to share the incredible efforts of our volunteers who recently came together to restore Waipiʻo Valley. After heavy rains caused significant flooding and debris accumulation, our Loʻī stewardship program organized a cleanup at the valley's Water Heads.

Successful Cleanup Day

Two dozen dedicated volunteers worked hard to remove downed trees, boulders, and plant materials, reopening vital waterways for our kalo farmers. Thanks to their efforts, the waterways are now clear, ensuring the continued cultivation of kalo.
