"Hoʻomana a Hoʻopili i nā Kānāwai Aliʻi - Honor and Uphold the Laws of the Monarchs"

King Kamehameha V - Royal Decree Re-enactment

Each year, Hale Mua collaborates with Huliheʻe Palace and the ʻDaughters of Hawaiiʻ to host a poignant re-enactment commemorating a pivotal moment in Hawaiian history. This re-enactment, held annually on April 11th, brings to life a significant meeting between King Kamehameha V and his privy council in 1865.

During this historic gathering, King Kamehameha V, alongside his councilors Andrews, Harris, and Varigny, deliberated on the establishment of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I and the bestowal of Hawaiian Kingdom Loyalty Awards. These awards were intended to honor individuals who had made exceptional contributions to the betterment of the Hawaiian Kingdom through their meritorious works.

The re-enactment, performed by Kanaka Oiwi, serves as a poignant tribute to these true historical events, allowing audiences to witness a significant moment in Hawaiian history firsthand.
