"Hoʻoulu a Hoʻolako i ka Hale - Nourishing and Restoring the House"

Hale o Kaʻili Heiau

Nestled in Kohala, Hale o Kaʻili stands as a testament to Hawaii's rich heritage, with ties to King Kamehameha I. Historically, this heiau is believed to have been constructed during Kamehameha's early years, near the place of his childhood refuge, Awini.

Despite enduring years of neglect, members of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, from Moku o Kohala have been actively involved in clearing portions of the unused areas surrounding Hale o Kaʻili to make room for community gathering rights and beach access for Kohala fishermen. Additionally, efforts are underway to replant the native Hala ula, for which Kohala is famous, restoring the area to its natural splendor.
